Dr. Sax is Matt Brodie. He was the leader of Coal’d Fusion and also lead his jazz duo/trio/quartet/quintet, The Dr. Sax Jazz Ensemble. Between 1982 and 1997 Matt lead Boulder and Denver’s most popular jazz fusion band, Inner City and was the featured saxophonist in the renowned Legendary 4-Nikators, Johnny and the Sunsets, Inner City Fusion, Sax Fifth Avenue, and Latitude.
Matt has opened for Jay Leno, Kilaminjaro, and Little Richard. Matt has played with numerous R&B, Motown, jazz, and salsa bands in Denver, San Antonio, Salt Lake City, and San Francisco. Matt’s saxophone influences include Grover Washington, Ronnie Laws, Tom Scott, Sonny Stitt, and John Coltrane. In addition to Coal’d
Fusion and Dr. Sax, Matt was previously the featured saxophonist with Traffic Jam, The Colorado Band, Asteva, and The Ride, and yes, Matt is also a medical doctor.
